Shop Talk

'Ello, gents and ladies!

I've decided that it's time for me to take advantage of this blogging thing, instead of allowing it to stay idle as it has for the last few years. My name is Gavin Michelli, and I'm a comic book artist and illustrator. Great, that's out of the way!

I figure that a nice way to start off would be to give you guys an overview of what I use to create. For digital art, I use Photoshop CC with a Fujitsu Lifebook T730. The Fujitsu is an older convertible laptop/tablet, but I upgraded the RAM to 8GB and it has an i5 processer, so it handles pretty well. The REAL reason that I got it, though, is that the touch screen comes with a pen and was built using Wacom technology, so I've got lots of pressure sensitivity to draw with. I used a Wacom Intuos 3 before I switched over to the Fujitsu laptop, and I've never looked back.

For traditional stuff, I've been using Pentel mechanical pencils since I was a kid. I get 'em at Walgreens.  I've spent a ton of cash on fancy pants pencils of all shapes, sizes and types, but I keep coming back to these. For inking, I usually use Prismacolor liner pens and a brush pen. I have a quill and Raphael #3 sable brush, but I rarely use them. The only time I ink is for commissions anyway. If I had to sit at my art table like a professional to ink something, nothing would ever get inked. Sooo...pens. I also use Prismacolor brush tip markers for color commissions. Prisma fa life, bro.

I hope that was a help to you guys! Hopefully I can make this journal thing a regular occurrence, so keep your eyes peeled, and I'll talk at ya later!
